HUSSEY GAY BELL & HMGMA: A HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP
In recent weeks, Georgia and the future of electric vehicles have hit a monumental milestone as Hyundai Motor Group officially opened the doors to its state-of-the-art Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) campus in Bryan County. This has occurred just two and a half years after breaking ground, this achievement stands as the largest economic development project in the State’s history.
Project Description:
In 2022, Hyundai Motor Group announced its historic investment in Georgia, committing $5.5 billion to establish Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), its first U.S.-based electric vehicle (EV) mass production facility. Located on a 3,000+ acre site in Bryan County, HMGMA has become a cornerstone of EV manufacturing, integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainability initiatives. Since the initial announcement, total investment in Georgia related to the project has surged to over $8 billion, with HMGMA and its network of Tier 1 suppliers creating 12,000 direct, long-term jobs, driving significant economic growth across the coastal region. In March 2025, the Metaplant officially opened its doors, marking the start of commercial production and reinforcing Georgia’s position as a leader in EV innovation and manufacturing. This massive effort was delivered through a CMAR approach, ensuring improved feasibility and cost effectiveness.
Hussey Gay Bell’s Role:
Hussey Gay Bell is proud to have played a pivotal role in supporting this transformative project. We provided a wide range of professional services — both as a prime and subconsultant — on multiple on- and off- site Tier 1 supplier projects. Our contributions included architecture, engineering, and surveying services.
On-site, our expertise was instrumental in the development of facilities for Hyundai Glovis, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Materials, and Hyundai Motor Group/LG Energy Solution’s (LGES) JV EV Battery Cell Manufacturing Plant. Additionally, we provided professional services for off-site suppliers such as Seoyon E-Hwa, Daechang Seat Corp., Seohan Auto Georgia, Sewon America, and PHA. These projects were designed and constructed in parallel with HMGMA’s cutting-edge smart factory, ensuring seamless integration and operational efficiency to support Hyundai’s next-generation EV production.
