College of Coastal Georgia Opens New Center for the Arts in Brunswick

A New Cultural Landmark Takes Center Stage in Brunswick

A transformative new chapter for the College of Coastal Georgia and the Golden Isles community is officially underway.

With the opening of the Center for the Arts in Brunswick, a long-envisioned project has become a reality, one that elevates both arts education and regional cultural life. Spanning more than 32,000 square feet, the facility is designed not just as a campus asset, but as a true community destination.

At its heart is a 1,000-seat, state-of-the-art performance auditorium, complemented by dedicated backstage and operational spaces that support the technical demands of modern productions. From concerts and theatrical performances to lectures and civic events, the building is positioned to host a wide range of programming that serves both students and the broader public.

Designed for Impact—On Campus and Beyond

The Center for the Arts is more than a performance venue, it’s infrastructure for opportunity.

Developed through a strategic partnership between the College of Coastal Georgia, Glynn County Board of Education, and the University System of Georgia, the project reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to the arts. Funded through ESPLOST, it represents a direct investment by the community into educational and cultural growth.

The facility is intentionally designed to bridge audiences. It creates new opportunities for Glynn County Schools and CCG students while also functioning as a regional hub for arts organizations, performances, and community engagement.

College leadership has been clear about its significance: this is a space built not just for academic use, but for lasting community impact.

Hussey Gay Bell’s Fully Integrated Design Approach

For Hussey Gay Bell, this project stands out for its scale and for the depth of involvement required by their team.

Serving as a full-service partner from concept through completion, the team provided architecture, interior design, civil and structural engineering, permitting, and construction phase services. That level of integration allowed for a cohesive vision across every aspect of the facility, from performance functionality to user experience.

Projects like this don’t succeed on design alone. They require alignment across disciplines, coordination with multiple stakeholders, and a clear understanding of how the building will be used long after opening day.

Built Through Collaboration

Delivering a project of this complexity takes the right team.

Hussey Gay Bell worked alongside a group of experienced partners, including McKnight Construction, Theatre Projects, Dulohery Weeks, Stage Front, Mandel Design, J&A Engineering, and Gleeds. Each brought specialized expertise that helped shape a facility capable of supporting high-level performance and long-term durability.

A Lasting Investment in the Golden Isles

The opening of the Center for the Arts marks more than the completion of a building, it signals a shift in what’s possible for the region.

With a dedicated venue for performances, events, and educational programming, the Golden Isles now has a centralized space to cultivate creativity, support local arts initiatives, and bring the community together in new ways. Early programming is already underway, with major events and performances scheduled to activate the space immediately.

For Hussey Gay Bell, being part of that impact is the real milestone.

Because at the end of the day, projects like this are about creating places people will return to again and again.
