Georgia Leads the Future of Electric Vehicle Manufacturing
Georgia has reached a historic milestone in the evolution of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing with the grand opening of the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Bryan County. Just two and a half years after breaking ground, the state-of-the-art EV production facility stands as the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history—cementing the region’s status as a national leader in innovation, technology, and sustainable manufacturing.
About the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA)
In 2022, Hyundai Motor Group announced a landmark $5.5 billion investment to establish its first U.S.-based EV mass production facility on a 3,000+ acre site in Bryan County, Georgia. Today, that investment has grown to over $8 billion, encompassing HMGMA and its network of Tier 1 suppliers. Collectively, the initiative is projected to create more than 12,000 direct, long-term jobs, driving transformative economic growth across coastal Georgia.
The Hyundai Metaplant integrates cutting-edge smart factory technology and sustainability initiatives, representing the next era of EV manufacturing. Delivered through a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach, the project ensured maximum feasibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness from concept to completion. Commercial production officially began in March 2025, marking the start of a new chapter for Georgia’s thriving EV ecosystem.
