Northside Hospital Atlanta Emergency Department Expansion

Hussey Gay Bell provided surveying and civil engineering services for the expansion and renovation of Northside Hospital Atlanta’s Emergency Department, a multi-phase project designed to maintain continuous operations throughout construction. The project includes a two-story, 67,000+ square-foot expansion, renovation of existing department space, a new patient drop-off and entry sequence, reconfiguration of surface parking, a 54-space parking structure, and expanded ambulance access.

The expansion is strategically located across an existing dual drainage collection system, requiring a carefully designed stormwater solution to combine flows without overloading downstream infrastructure. The team developed a detention system to manage capacity while supporting the increased footprint and impervious area.

Extensive coordination with the architect and CMAR contractor was critical to preserving uninterrupted utility service and aligning with complex construction phasing and logistics. Services also included land disturbance permitting coordination with the City of Sandy Springs. The project enhances patient access, increases treatment capacity, and supports the hospital’s ability to serve a rapidly growing community.
