Whole Foods at West Ashley Station
Charleston, SC

West Ashley is the key to future development for the City of Charleston. As the Charleston area is projected to reach 1 million inhabitants in the next ten to fifteen years, much of that development and densification is expected to happen in the West Ashley area.

West Ashley’s neighborhoods are bound together by several major commercial corridors. These corridors have evolved over time as the development of West Ashley has moved to the northwest, the socio-economics and demographics of the neighborhoods have changed, and competition from other areas in the region has increased. In response to the City’s plans for economic development in the West Ashley commercial corridor, S.J. Collins Enterprises elected to develop an old shopping center property with a 45,000 SF Whole Foods as the anchor tenant.

The Whole Foods at West Ashley Station consists of the redevelopment of an existing shopping center at the intersection of Savannah Highway (US 17) and Farmfield Avenue in the City of Charleston’s West Ashley area. An existing Doscher’s Grocery Store was retained on the site with the remainder of the center being demolished. The new Whole Foods and a small tenant space were constructed adjacent to the existing grocery store, along with an out-parcel building on the front portion of the site along Savannah Highway. Hussey Gay Bell provided civil engineering, permitting and construction services for the project. Final design was completed in the summer of 2016 and construction was completed in 2018.
