The project consists of the design and construction of a new 95,000-square-foot Convocation Center on 19 acres near the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Lanier Drive. The building will have easy access to the Highway 301 Bypass for student use, events, and community outreach. The facility will house academic space for the Waters College of Health Professions and multipurpose event venue project and will support the 26,000 student population for all campuses of Georgia Southern University. The facility will include space for a multipurpose event space, instructional facilities, support facilities, team/athletic department facilities, and operations support space. In addition, the facility will also be used by the Anatomy and Physiology, Structural Kinesiology, Sports Management, Sports and Exercise Psychology and Athletic Training programs. As a subconsultant to LS3P, Hussey Gay Bell’s responsibilities include planning, site/civil design, permitting and limited construction phase services.
