Ben Sawyer/Intracoastal Waterway Water Main Crossing
Sullivan’s Island, SC
Project consisted of the installation of approximately 5,750 LF of transmission water main to provide a third connection to a MPW owned water main located at Toler’s Cove in Mt. Pleasant. Scope included a connection to CWS’s existing 20” transmission water main along Middle Street on Sullivan’s Island with an open cut extension to a location on the northwest side of the island, where it crosses the marsh and Intracoastal Waterway by HDD with a connection made to an existing 12” water main in the vicinity of Toler’s Cove Drive at Marsh Harbor. In Phase 1, Hussey Gay Bell performed a preliminary engineering evaluation and prepared a PER to determine the pipe size and the alignment of the upland and HDD routes. Upon the final determination on the selected route, Phase 2 consisted of the design and permitting for the 16” diameter water transmission main crossing. Scope included approximately 5,200 LF of HDD water main, 550 LF of 16” ductile iron pipe for connecting the existing main at each end of the HDD, wholesale meter vault with SCADA system, and associated appurtenances.
