Single Largest Supplier of Engineers to WRAFB Gets Facelift

Project scope consisted of the design and construction of a new 52,000 SF, $10M facility located on the Macon, Georgia campus of Mercer University. Through a partnership with Warner Robins Air Force Base, Mercer constructed this new facility to train specific engineering skills needed at the base. Upon graduation, students can go straight to work at WRAFB. Mercer University is the single largest supplier of engineers to WRAFB, and WRAFB is the single largest employer in the State of Georgia.

The two-story interdisciplinary STEM facility is located adjacent to the existing engineering building. It contains four (4) very specialized engineering labs for the testing and processing of electronics and circuit board, and four (4) specialized engineering labs for the testing of certain materials. It also contains sixteen (16) small project labs for individual or group student work. The new facility also includes a 150-seat lecture hall, several physics labs, and a state-of-the-art electronic media lab for multimedia recording, production and distribution, providing Mercer University faculty and students flexible classrooms designed with sustainable features. Hussey Gay Bell provided complete A/E design services, including the initial building program.
