Where the Heart Goes to Heal

As the Architect of Record, Hussey Gay Bell designed an environment that inspires and promotes healing. Project scope consisted of the build-out of approximately 25,000 SF of shell space on the 5th floor of the existing Heart and Vascular Building located on the campus of Memorial University Medical Center. The build-out included 32 critical-care beds, comprised of 6 ICU beds and 26 step-down beds. The program also included all other associated support spaces such as nurses’ stations, linen supply, equipment storage, staff lounge, nurse and physician offices, nourishment stations, physician workroom, and a new elevator. The $5.5M project was completed in 2014; with FF&E the total project was $9M.

Memorial Heart & Vascular ICU
Savannah, GA

For nearly 10 years prior to the completion of this project in 2014, the first two floors of the Heart & Vascular dedicated space met Memorial Health’s needs but growth in the area led to the need for more patient beds for cardiovascular patients. In response, Memorial designed a new wing to host the most technologically advanced, state-of-the-art critical care available in the region with emphasis on in-patients suffering from heart attacks, strokes and vascular disease.
