An Alternative Sewer System

Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) selected Hussey Gay Bell to provide professional engineering services to design the implementation of an alternative sewer system, which will divert the Authority’s sewer flows generated by the Lady’s Island sewer system from BJWSA’s St. Helena Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Port Royal Island Wastewater Reclamation Facility. Hussey Gay Bell’s design for the Lady’s Island Force Main Diversion includes the 16-inch HDD crossing under Beaufort River and it is being installed parallel to the existing Secession Golf Club Effluent pipe – a project also designed by Hussey Gay Bell which consisted of the design of 5,000 LF of fused 10-inch PVC DR 14 effluent force main installed using horizontal directional drilling; 3,000 LF of 10-inch PVC effluent force main installed using direct bury methods; and one 1,000 GPM skid-mounted effluent pump station. The Secession project set a world record as the longest HDD using fused PVC to date at the time of installation in July 2007.
