Georgia Southern’s New Kinesiology Research Laboratories

Georgia Southern University is involved in biomechanic research, focusing on concussions but they did not have an adequate facility for this research. This project provided the needed amenities for this important program.  This project renovated the existing space on the northwest side of the Hanner Complex, approximately 8,500 SF of unfinished space, which was formerly an indoor pool. A small addition to the existing space and new infrastructure was included in the project. This space was unfinished, unconditioned space that was not being utilized. The space was renovated to accommodate concussion and biomechanical research within the Health and Kinesiology program. In addition, various life/safety issues within the Fieldhouse, including code compliance with the current NFPA and life-safety codes and regulations were addressed to bring the Fieldhouse into code compliance. Under a separate contract, Hussey Gay Bell also provided design and construction administration for the roof and roof deck replacement. Hussey Gay Bell’s services included architectural design, civil design, structural design and construction phase services.
