Great Swamp Effluent Disposal Expansion
Hussey Gay Bell provided engineering services in connection with Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA)’s Great Swamp Effluent Disposal Expansion. This expansion project included extension of a new effluent pipe from Highway 278 to a new distribution header for effluent disposal and a new boardwalk. The project scope included professional services for the preparation of design, bid and construction documents for approximately 2,700 feet of 16 – 24-inch pipe from an existing 16-inch DIP stub-out near Highway 278, west of the Auto Mall; 4,100 feet of 16 – 24-inch HDPE or Fusible PVC pipe installed by horizontal directional drill (HDD) under the wetlands; 1,200 feet of HDPE or gated PVC distribution header installed by attachment to a new boardwalk structure; 12,300 feet of monitoring boardwalk (4 feet wide); a pressure reducing valve and flowmeter; and improvements to approximately 1,000 feet of existing dirt road. Hussey Gay Bell’s support services included topographic survey, easement plats and staking, soils investigation for the HDD, wetlands delineation and permitting.
