Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., City of Conyers, GA

This is a 220,000 SF manufacturing facility and ±122,000 SF enclosed storage warehouse with associated drives and parking.  Due to existing grades and the need for a large, flat building pad, a large amount of fill dirt was required for this project.  With an existing detention pond at the rear of the property, a long wall was required to support the proposed building pad.  In addition, consideration of grades between the new building pad and existing open-storage area to the west was needed to provide proper slope transitions for forklift traffic between the two areas.

Much of the design for this site was completed prior to the architect being engaged.  Our Project Manager, Keith Hightower, worked with the Client to establish a schedule, building parameters, rough utility entry/exit points and vertical relationships between buildings.  Our experience with these issues on other projects allowed us to develop a design that ultimately met the building needs while maintaining the Client’s need to begin site work in time to take advantage of available fill material when it was ready.
