From Shopping Center to State-of-the-Art
Hussey Gay Bell is the Architect and Engineer of Record for this project which consisted of the design and construction of a new $5 million, 21,000-square-foot Liberty Campus in Hinesville, Georgia. Located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Memorial Drive and Welborn Street, the new building replaces an existing smaller classroom facility located in 10,500 square feet of leased commercial space in a strip shopping center with administrative space, faculty/staff offices, common areas, student services and support areas on donated land. The design of the facility was sensitive to the aesthetic fabric of the existing community and complements the existing downtown streetscape while incorporating sustainable construction materials and high-quality finishes which are typical of University System of Georgia facilities. The new building primarily serves military personnel, their families and non-traditional students at Fort Stewart, Liberty County and the surrounding areas. Academic programs at the Liberty Campus will include a full range of undergraduate coursework and degrees. Current enrollment is 300 with projections anticipated to be approximately 700 with the new facility online. Project was constructed by Statesboro-based, Lavender & Associates, and reached completion in the Spring of 2016.
