Tight Sight Leads to Smarter Footprint for New School

The New Meadowcreek Cluster Elementary School is proposed for one of the few remaining open parcels in the Tucker area of fast growing Gwinnett County.  The tight sight, challenging project budget and significant presence of sub-surface rock were all prominent factors in the design of the three-story facility.  Additionally, blast hazards identified from nearby petroleum stations necessitated that classrooms and play areas be oriented to the back of the site.  Hussey Gay Bell worked with GCPS to include all required program areas for a student body of 1,500 onto one of the smallest elementary school sites in the District.  The available construction budget focuses on classroom and core functions, safe and efficient circulation through the school, and allows for a handsome entry and public elevation.  The hard bid project featured early site packages and is anticipated to open in the Fall of 2018.  It is being constructed by Toccoa, Georgia-based Bowen & Watson, Inc.
