Central Berkeley WWTP Upgrade to 6 MGD

Hussey Gay Bell is providing design services for this project which consists of the upgrade of the existing Central Berkeley Wastewater Treatment Facility – a modified activated sludge treatment facility currently permitted to treat 3 million gallons per day (MGD) of domestic wastewater – to flow capacity 6 MGD. Plant modification includes an additional influent bar screen and vortex grit removal unit in the headworks, an addition of a second carousel aeration basin and associated equipment, oxidation ditch, one additional UV bank structure and UV equipment and additional effluent pump, piping, valves, electrical, expansion of existing SCADA (supervisory control and date acquisition) system to accommodate new process equipment and miscellaneous appurtenances for a complete and operable system. All design work will meet the existing NPDES permit for the facility. Project will be funded by the SRF (State Revolving Fund). Topographic and location survey will perform at the proposed facility expansion locations and pipeline routes from the headworks to the proposed oxidation ditch, extension to the proposed UV disinfection unit and at the effluent pump station. Field survey will locate roads, ditches, buildings, storm drainage systems, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, equipment, and other utilities within the project area.
