Augusta’s Infamous Broad Street Receives $84M Transformation
Augusta-Richmond County selected Hussey Gay Bell to provide professional engineering design services to enhance Broad Street from west of Milledge Road to East Boundary Street, approximately 3.6 miles, and help push downtown’s revival. The project includes removing the 1970s-era depressed or well-type parking in the Broad Street median from 6th Street to 10th Street in addition to pedestrian improvements like new sidewalks, handicap ramps, and crosswalks, resurfacing and restriping, drainage improvements, on-street parking and enhancing the aesthetics of the corridor with the addition of streetscape trees, brick paving and streetscape lighting. The project is slated for construction completion in 2021; designs are underway.
