3rd Brigade Military Police Battalion Headquarters and Classroom Building

The 3rd Brigade’s Military Police Battalion Headquarters and Classroom Building consists of a two-story, 12,586 SF headquarters building. It was constructed using a standing seam metal roof, concrete floors, steel stud/gypsum board interior wall system, a non-load bearing steel stud brick veneer exterior wall system. Interior finishes are painted gypsum and CMU walls, suspended ceilings, and vinyl floors. The building has state-of-the-art communications technology and fiber optic cable. The building has administrative and office space on the first and second floors with large classrooms located on the first floor. Supporting facilities included utilities, electric service, exterior lighting, fire protection and alarm systems, paving, walkways, curbs and gutters, parking, storm drainage, information systems, and site improvements. Heating and air conditioning (270 tons) for the building are provided by high temperature water and chilled water supplied by the installation’s energy plant. Anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) measures have been included in the project in accordance with the “DoD Anti-terrorism building standards”.

The steel frame “coastal southern style” building was designed and constructed incorporating sustainable design principles. Some of the sustainable design measures included reducing heat islands, utilizing native plants to eliminate the need for a permanent irrigation system, implementing a Construction Waste Management Plan, and providing for a high quality indoor environment increasing local density, local material use, construction indoor air quality management, and Life Cycle Cost Assessment for building materials. Other measures included erosion, sedimentation, water quality control, and holistic project delivery. Energy use was reduced by 30% over ASHREA 90.1 standards. These measures have provided for a Gold SPiRiT rating for the building.
