After completing my undergraduate degree from Nepal, I moved to the United States for further studies. It is well known all over the world that transportation systems here in the United States are amazing, and I have always wanted to explore them whenever I get an opportunity. I completed my Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Transportation at Cleveland State University and then joined Hussey Gay Bell as a Transportation Engineer shortly after in July 2018.
It was my first engineering job in the United States, I was worried if I would be able to fit in with a team and perform as expected. Hussey Gay Bell provided leadership and guidance to help me understand my job which also helped me to get settled here quickly. Within a short period of time, I was given an opportunity to work on a variety of projects, providing a greater sense of responsibility and excitement at the same time. Since then I have continued to work on projects with increasing responsibility. Executing theoretical knowledge gained throughout my years of study into real-world projects is very satisfying.
Additionally, Hussey Gay Bell has been very supportive of the visa process required to maintain my visa status for non-citizen workers, which can be a challenging process in itself. So far, it’s a dream come true. I am in a position that I had dreamed of when I was back in Nepal. Being so far from my family and friends has not been easy, love of my position and the work project opportunities I receive are the only things that help me feel better. I am confident that Hussey Gay Bell will help me to develop myself as a good engineer and a better person.
