Hussey Gay Bell Welcomes Ricks Back to the Firm
Savannah, GA – Hussey Gay Bell is pleased to welcome Mr. Matthew D. Ricks, PhD, PE back to the firm.
Previously with the firm from 2005 to 2011, he rejoins the company as a Senior Civil Engineer. Mr. Ricks’ experience includes all facets of civil planning, design and permitting with emphasis in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, analysis and design. Notable hydrologic and hydraulic design projects include Casey Canal North and Bilbo Basin, major drainage basins for downtown Savannah, as well as the 400-acre Richmond Hill Plantation mixed-use development and a variety of projects for Georgia Ports. In his current capacity, he will be responsible for planning, analyzing, designing, permitting, constructing, and maintaining water resources-related projects, including stormwater drainage systems, flood control projects, and water quality systems.
In addition to his sixteen (16) years of industry experience, Mr. Ricks is an Assistant Professor within the School of Engineering & Computational Sciences at Liberty University. He teaches coursework ranging from Introduction to Engineering I and Computer Aided Design to Mechanics of Materials and Project & Construction Management. During the course of his tenure, Mr. Ricks has made scholarly contributions to a host of technical journals and served as a panelist and guest speaker at a range of conferences and technical workshops, most recently, the 2019 IECA Annual Conference and Expo.

Mr. Ricks holds three degrees – a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Auburn University, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Georgia with professional memberships including the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Mr. Ricks also contributes time to the House of Heroes and various Christian ministry programs.
